Translator Week 2

Hello, I’m Eva Lopez Romero, the translator for this week’s task. My job this week was to choose 5 terms that define best our weeks topic and describe them. These are the topics I selected:

Innovation: innovation in relation with engagement in classroom is defined as an idea that has been successfull in the society or profesional ennvironment, and that has influence those environments by making a change within them. It plays a very important part in the students engagement on the subject matter, which is a big aspect of the 21st cenury learning process.

Visualization: it is the process that our minds go through when analysing a visual. It could be a picture, a drawing, a video. This process is improved by combinig visual with text. There are a wide variety of ways to use visualization in the classroom, gaming being one of the most popular ones.

Democratization of Knowledge: this expressions summarizes the fact that information can be found everywhere. Not only in schools, but outside of them as well, and sometimes in a bigger amount. The process of democratization is the one where information is not limited inside educational system. We reach information online, on different courses, informal education, etc.

Participatory Learning: in the participatory learning the success of one is the success of the whole community or group that is behind him, and of its work and commitment. It is focused on the learner, allowing them to solve problems on their own, within a helping community.

Auca: Auca were the predecessors of nowadays comics. These drawings introduces kids into reading. They first started on the 17th century in Spanish. Aucas are artisstic documents which integrates images with verses. In Auca there are usually 24 or 48 images, all together on one side of the paper. Aucas can contain multiple types of stories: religios, politics, entertainment.

The other part of my job was to analyze the sources we worked with and try to critice this. That is to say that my job is to explain why comics can’t be used in class.

Firstly I want to start by saying that comics are an entertaining way to treat ceartain subjects in a more creative way. However, not every topic can be covered using this technic. Those subjects that are more abstract, that don’t talk about tangible things are more complicated to protray in a comic.

Actualy, the theory that we studied this week was quite difficult to show by using drawings. You certainly can use comics to describe history events, book plots, use them to teach languages.

On the other hand, I must also say that comics sometimes can be subjective. Even though they tell a story, that story can be understood in many different ways. Thus, those topics you need to teach in a specific way or you need your students to understand appropriately should be taught with a different methodology, not because it is not good, but because it may not be useful in the end.
